Soap Making Workshop

  • Turtle Island Preserve 2683 Little Laurel Road Boone, NC, 28607 United States (map)

We have  an amazing, rare opportunity here at Turtle Island to offer you a lye soap making class from the master himself, Glen Donly.  A "died in the wool" mountain man, now in his 80's, he has been making lye soap using the hot process method for over 15 years.  If you have been to Dollywood in Sevierville, Tennessee, and purchased soap, it was Glen's.   We figure Dolly knows a good thing when she sees it!  He also owns Smokey Mountain Lye Soap.

This class will be taught in our primitive outdoor kitchen over open fire and utilizing our large hand built hearth.  Delicious, nutritious meals will be provided beginning at lunch on Saturday the 1st and concluding with breakfast on the 2nd.  It's a small class folks, limited to only a few adults.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn from a wonderful elder....and you'll be able to take some awesome lye soap home with you!
